Teach English in Costa Rica

Teach English in Costa Rica and gain international teaching experience while living in a destination known for its natural beauty, laid-back culture, and “pura vida” lifestyle. This opportunity is a great fit for adventurous, flexible candidates who want to work with students, build international experience, and immerse themselves in daily life abroad. Teaching opportunities may include in-person and online roles with young learners or adults, with contracts typically ranging from 6 to 12 months.

Teachers typically begin with a one-week group orientation in San Ramón to prepare for classroom life and living in Costa Rica. A 120-hour TESOL/TEFL certification is generally part of the pathway, and placements may include local academies, online schools, and, in some cases, international or bilingual schools. Start dates are offered at select points throughout the year.

Candidates should generally be native English speakers between ages 22 and 45, citizens of the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, New Zealand, Australia or South Africa, in strong mental and physical health, and without a criminal record. A university degree is required for applicants from the U.K., Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, while some U.S. and Canadian applicants may be eligible without a degree. Basic Spanish is suggested but not required.
